Ronald McDonald House Hamilton is part of a network of 13 Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada that provide a home away from home, for families of children who are seriously ill and being treated at nearby hospitals. Recently they expanded their facility from a fifteen-bedroom home to forty, merging their old building with a new one. They required a donor recognition and wayfinding signage program that addressed a number of factors including the old and new architectural environments within the home, and their Family Room located offsite at McMaster Children’s Hospital.
Working closely with design direction from Patti Majcher of RMHH, we developed an integrated interior signage program involving identification, directional and recognition for the individual corporate sponsors. The designs use child-like characters and warm inviting colours that compliment the interiors, providing a beautiful balance between functional and aesthetic values.
As part of on-going donor recognition and communications, we created an interactive recognition program running on touch screen displays for both the home facility and the hospital’s Family Room. The software was custom designed to meet all the client’s needs including various personal testimonials of participating parents that have used the home.
Our wayfinding solution was a perfect balance of design and material choice for meeting the architectural environment of this historic, and newly renovated and expanded building.
The digital touch screen displays provides the opportunities to capture the visitors’ and donors attention, appealing to their curiosity enough so as to stop and interact. It provides a coherent form for communicating the intended messaging as an identifiable aspect of the facilities branding and funding programs, goals and endeavors. It also provides motivation to participate in the donor program.
The electronic recognition program met the client’s criterion, allowing for the following capabilities:
- Centralized and remote content management capability
- Ease of use that’s intuitive, flexible and simple to manage
- Donor category grouping and recognition
- Recognition of past and current donors
- Seasonal messaging
- Event or program promotion, upcoming events
- Daily and weekly activities
- Video messaging and presentation videos
